In this week's build-up to The 137th Open Championship, I thought we'd have a look at how players qualify to compete for the Claret Jug. A total of 156 players will compete at Royal Birkdale, with the leading 70, and those tied for 70th place after two
rounds, qualifying for the final 36 holes. There are two ways to qualify for The Open: either through successfully competing in a gruelling process of qualifying tournaments or by earning exemption through previous achievements.
